Summary: Harry Potter was born with a mark that was supposed to identify his soulmate, but none came forwards by the time he was twenty-nine, and so he sacrificed his mark in a ritual to awaken his brother-in-law from a magical coma. Two months later, Tom Riddle, his soulmate, appears. And he’s determined to make Harry pay the price for what he did.

Author’s Notes: This is one of my “Songs of Summer” fics, one-shots being posted between the summer solstice and the first of August. This story is for a prompt by hoars, asking for Cedric/Harry and Cedric is declared the only survivor from that night, or so everyone claims, until Voldemort takes over the Ministry with a very familiar wizard by his side. I’ve altered the prompt a bit so that it’s an attack rather than a takeover, and while this might someday be a longer story, this shows only a flash of the relationship between Cedric and Harry. The title comes from the proverb, “A guilty conscience needs no accuser.”

Summary: AU. Soul-marks are everything in the magical world; you can only ever marry or date your soulmate, every person has exactly one mark and match, and even house-elves are slaves because of their lack of marks. The Killing Curse, Unforgivable because it erases the soul’s mark as well as killing the body, has no known survivors. Until it does, and Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts bereft of his mark, the subject of furious debate as to whether his presence dirties the school or if it should be allowed at all.
