Progress Report 12/18

Sorry to say, there will be no update on Practicing Liars today; I’m not going to have enough time to write or post. Instead, I’m snatching time to put up a short progress report instead.
Soldier’s Welcome- This is only two chapters from the end, and I have a strong plot for the second story. I’m very excited about finishing it. There will probably be a break of a week or so between the end of this and the start of the next story in the trilogy, Ceremonies of Strife.
Practicing Liars- I still don’t have a good idea of how long this will be, though I’m estimating between 35 and 40 chapters. And then, of course, I’ll be writing a short epilogue!fic for it at the request of
jtsbbsps_dk.
“Another Country”- This has about 32,000 words right now and is close to the end—though whether that end will come in 4000 or 8000 words I’m not sure, since the story has just introduced a new conflict. *kicks the plot*
Sympathy for the Predators- This will probably be eleven to fifteen chapters. I’m writing 1000 words a night, most nights, on this, and I’m happy about the slow pace; it gives me more time to consider the language.
“The Moral Is Left As An Exercise For the Reader”- A one-shot, a series of short Draco-centric AU’s answering different questions (What if Draco had gone to Beauxbatons and not Hogwarts? What if Draco had been Sorted into Ravenclaw?) I’m writing 500 words on it a night, and it’s already longer than I thought it would be.
“Unsaved”—A one-shot of, probably, around 20,000 words, and more preslash than slash. Harry starts hearing rumors that Draco Malfoy, who was acquitted of being a Death Eater, is up to something Dark and horrible. But the rumors vary so much from person to person that getting to the bottom of them seems impossible, and Draco has apparently become a recluse in the Manor. Harry sees no option except to go directly to the source.
“Proportional to the Offense”—Also a one-shot. Harry, as an Auror, is assigned to infiltrate a cult-like group to find out what their ultimate goals are. The leader is charismatic enough to sway even Harry’s emotions, and he isn’t much surprised when he finds Draco Malfoy as one of the followers. But more investigation proves that perhaps Malfoy isn’t there of his own free will, that his personality has been broken down and reformed—and the same thing is in danger of happening to Harry if he stays too long. This would be horror.
“Blackberry Magic,” “A Healing Grace,” “Time Together”—Short fics for requests in the thank-you post I put up a while ago. I’m getting to them, I promise!
And I’m thinking of starting a series of one-shots, probably to be called the Cloak-and-Dagger series, where Harry and Draco are Auror partners investigating various mysteries. The stories would operate like police procedurals or detective novels, so that while the individual one-shots would be linked by certain recurring characters (besides Harry and Draco) and would refer to each other, there’s no definite end-point or overarching goal. This would let me have the satisfaction of writing in a continuous universe without making every single fic in it novel-length. I haven’t decided on titles or anything like that yet.
Also, if there’s anyone (especially people who gave me a virtual gift!) who wants to make a request for a short fic, 2000 words or under, you can do it here. I do best with very specific prompts for short fics.

Date: 2009-12-18 04:34 pm (UTC)"Sympathy for the Predators" is being posted, under its tag (http://lomonaaeren.livejournal.com/tag/sympathy+for+the+predators). But it's Harry/Lucius, so you may have chosen not to read it. "Another Country" is not posting yet.

Date: 2009-12-18 04:40 pm (UTC)I liked the idea of the series. It's like reading a novel-lenght only there aren't cliffhangers, so you could write whenever you feel like it and us readers would be fine. Besides, it has Aurors Harry and Draco and will have misteries...

Date: 2009-12-18 04:41 pm (UTC)Just want to say that I love all of your fics, I think it is amazing that the stories you write are so diverse with multitude interpretations of the harry draco dynamic, in various settings.
I can't wait to read more of your fics, I am a big fan of practicing liars and I am waiting until you finish soldiers welcome before I read the remaining few chapters, another great story.
Many thanks for your great work.

Date: 2009-12-22 03:35 am (UTC)There are lots of H/D darkfics, but I'm not sure if they're what you would call horror or not; quite often they seem to be hurt/comfort or rape instead.

Date: 2009-12-18 10:13 pm (UTC)if i were to make any request it all i'd be a short, very tragic, oh-god-I'm-weeping, how-happen-to-them-why?-Oh-Why? because your horror/tragic fics are so magical and amazing, like everything else you write. i dunno exactly what the plot could be, but "Clock" and "winter" sound like they could create something tragic....
But you don't have to take that suggestion...even if you just write everything up in your report i'll be happy <3

Date: 2009-12-19 01:13 pm (UTC)Proportional to the Offense sounds captivating but scares me a little bit. It's possible I'll stay away from the horror.

Date: 2009-12-20 01:05 am (UTC)I have just emerged from the mental lockdown that is finals, and you're taking REQUESTS? Are you kidding me? I may still be feeling those energy drinks...well, as I'm anonymous lurker #1, I'll throw out a word and see if it inspires you. Can't hurt, I guess. Since finals are still on the brain..."physics".
I certainly won't be offended if you scoff at my anonymous prompt. Now, to go read all the other updates...

Date: 2009-12-22 03:37 am (UTC)I don't know about the Sherlock Holmes reference; we'll have to see. :)
Ooh, an interesting request! I don't know when I'll manage to get to it, but we'll see.

Date: 2009-12-20 02:47 am (UTC)I love reading mysteries, especially those in which Harry and Draco are Auror partners!
And if you could sometimes include other characters, that would be the icing on the cake! Can't wait for this.

Date: 2009-12-28 12:05 am (UTC)Just wanted to say that I think you're doing a fine job. The way you keep up with demand must be dizzying! I can't wait for the next fic after Soldier's Welcome. You have such a way with mysteries.
Take care!

If you would like to use it for a fic, I would be much obliged.
