Progress Report 12/18

Sorry to say, there will be no update on Practicing Liars today; I’m not going to have enough time to write or post. Instead, I’m snatching time to put up a short progress report instead.
Soldier’s Welcome- This is only two chapters from the end, and I have a strong plot for the second story. I’m very excited about finishing it. There will probably be a break of a week or so between the end of this and the start of the next story in the trilogy, Ceremonies of Strife.
Practicing Liars- I still don’t have a good idea of how long this will be, though I’m estimating between 35 and 40 chapters. And then, of course, I’ll be writing a short epilogue!fic for it at the request of
jtsbbsps_dk.
“Another Country”- This has about 32,000 words right now and is close to the end—though whether that end will come in 4000 or 8000 words I’m not sure, since the story has just introduced a new conflict. *kicks the plot*
Sympathy for the Predators- This will probably be eleven to fifteen chapters. I’m writing 1000 words a night, most nights, on this, and I’m happy about the slow pace; it gives me more time to consider the language.
“The Moral Is Left As An Exercise For the Reader”- A one-shot, a series of short Draco-centric AU’s answering different questions (What if Draco had gone to Beauxbatons and not Hogwarts? What if Draco had been Sorted into Ravenclaw?) I’m writing 500 words on it a night, and it’s already longer than I thought it would be.
“Unsaved”—A one-shot of, probably, around 20,000 words, and more preslash than slash. Harry starts hearing rumors that Draco Malfoy, who was acquitted of being a Death Eater, is up to something Dark and horrible. But the rumors vary so much from person to person that getting to the bottom of them seems impossible, and Draco has apparently become a recluse in the Manor. Harry sees no option except to go directly to the source.
“Proportional to the Offense”—Also a one-shot. Harry, as an Auror, is assigned to infiltrate a cult-like group to find out what their ultimate goals are. The leader is charismatic enough to sway even Harry’s emotions, and he isn’t much surprised when he finds Draco Malfoy as one of the followers. But more investigation proves that perhaps Malfoy isn’t there of his own free will, that his personality has been broken down and reformed—and the same thing is in danger of happening to Harry if he stays too long. This would be horror.
“Blackberry Magic,” “A Healing Grace,” “Time Together”—Short fics for requests in the thank-you post I put up a while ago. I’m getting to them, I promise!
And I’m thinking of starting a series of one-shots, probably to be called the Cloak-and-Dagger series, where Harry and Draco are Auror partners investigating various mysteries. The stories would operate like police procedurals or detective novels, so that while the individual one-shots would be linked by certain recurring characters (besides Harry and Draco) and would refer to each other, there’s no definite end-point or overarching goal. This would let me have the satisfaction of writing in a continuous universe without making every single fic in it novel-length. I haven’t decided on titles or anything like that yet.
Also, if there’s anyone (especially people who gave me a virtual gift!) who wants to make a request for a short fic, 2000 words or under, you can do it here. I do best with very specific prompts for short fics.
