Okay.

First of all, I’m sorry I haven’t been responding to comments as much lately. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with trying to get all the writing I want to do, as well as the daily job things I have to do, done. I keep thinking that I need to answer all the comments at once, and I do start out with that intention, but then I don’t have time and start worrying about what will happen if I stay up late to make more time (I am a terrible person when I have not had at least seven hours of sleep), and I don’t finish.

I do want to say: Thank you so much for the appreciation. It makes my day to know that people enjoy these stories.

I’m going to cut back on some of the insane things I was trying to do*. After all, unless it’s a fic I promised to write for a definite deadline, I’m not on a mandated schedule for posting stories, and I don’t have to feel bad about taking a day off now and then or writing less than a “perfect” amount of words each day. 5000 words a day, 4000 on the main fic and 1000 on Sympathy for the Predators, seems to be my comfort limit. That’s still 35,000 words a week, which is damn plenty.

And now: long-overdue thanks to [personal profile] red_rahl, [personal profile] inviticus1, and [profile] sthelen for the virtual gifts. They brightened my day.

Thanks as well to [personal profile] duchessa. I’m so glad that you liked Starfire Nights! That’s the one-shot I’ve most enjoyed writing in several months. Playing in the Changing of the Guard universe again was a wonderful vacation.

Practicing Liars- about seven chapters from the end. It was going to be six, but the chapter I wrote to post tomorrow does almost nothing except be difficult-sweet about Harry and Snape’s relationship. So it’ll take a bit longer.

Ceremonies of Strife- This might be a little shorter than I’d planned, since I’m advancing events further forward in the story by several chapters and getting rid of a few overcomplicated plot twists, but it’ll still be a long sucker. I foresee myself writing this trilogy for the rest of the year.

Sympathy for the Predators- I call this a novella. Ha. It’s already longer than some of my fics that have more chapters. But it will end at Chapter 11.

“Kinder, Kindler, Kindlier”- This fic shoved itself rudely to the front of the line of ideas instead of waiting its turn. It’s a Snape/Harry/Draco threesome, but will (thank God) be considerably shorter than Their Phoenix. It could not, of course, be content to remain at a one-shot length. The bitty, episodic scenes I’d been envisioning have already grown too much flesh and bone. Its summary is: “The third law of motion does not apply to relationships.”

“Penance is the Play’- Still in progress, but I put it aside to work on “Starfire Nights.” I hope to pick it back up soon.

Fic called “Crimes of Passion,” which is a horrible title that will hopefully shame it into growing a proper one—Epilogue-compliant. Harry and Draco got divorced from their respective wives just after Al and Scorpius went to Hogwarts, and became lovers about a year later. Draco thought it would last forever. But then, when Scorpius was seventeen, Harry committed a horrible, thoughtless, stupid crime that nearly killed two people. He just as abruptly broke up with Draco and left the wizarding world. Draco has never known why. Now Harry’s come back and is hanging around Malfoy Manor for some reason. The only thing Draco can think of is that Harry wants to make up, but Harry keeps avoiding him. This Draco hates mysteries, and is going to carve his way through this one.

“Fearless”—Unfortunately, Draco was turned into a werewolf. Even more unfortunately, it happened on Ministry property, and they promptly seized Draco to use as a test subject for Wolfsbane and nastier potions. Draco’s only pleasure is causing fear in people he knows would run from him screaming if he was out of his cage. And then Harry Potter frees him, and Draco realizes he doesn’t smell at all of fear, which is what maddens the wolf.

“Hero’s Funeral”—This would be the first in the series of stories I mentioned a while back, the Cloak-and-Dagger series, with Harry and Draco as Auror partners. Harry was left with prophetic dreams after the war, which are never wrong. But now he’s getting visions of his own death, which are so strong that they paralyze him when the vision begins to come true. He’s nearly died several times. Malfoy is assigned as his partner because he’ll pull Harry out of trouble if he needs it but he’s in no way impressed by Harry’s mystique or the existence of the dreams.

“The Metaphors We Live By”—A look at how Draco thinks of Harry over the years, focusing on the metaphors that he uses to place Harry in his mind. This one would be normal, short one-shot length (the only one on this list that has the good sense to be that way).

*Like writing a fest fic at the same time as everything else. Fuck, the damn thing is not due for two months, I have 8000 words already, and I work best under deadline pressure anyway. What was I thinking?
