Short Progress Report

Soldier’s Welcome: I’m drawing the threads into place for the ending. I think I can confidently predict that this story should be over at 45 chapters. And now I have a major part of the plot for the sequel, Ceremonies of Strife, worked out, based on something that happened in the last few chapters of this one.

Practicing Liars: I think the reveal of Snape as Harry’s father (at least, the reveal to other people besides Harry) will happen sometime around Chapter 18. A few other plot developments have to take place first, and I’m not yet sure how long they’ll take.

“Another Country”: I started this fic today, and it’s now 4000 words long. And it has the potential to be much longer than I anticipated, goddamnit. There is a whole subplot with Narcissa that sprang out of nowhere because I asked a simple question—“Why would Draco be in St. Mungo’s?”—and which needs more room.

But so far, I really like this Draco, who is more mature than most of those I usually write, and this Harry is being stubborn and determined and all the qualities I like in him from canon. Plus, it’s fun to write a bit of Latin dialogue now and then.

“Difficulties of Being”: I’m doing 1000 words on this (Albus Severus/Scorpius, Harry/Draco) fic a day, about as much as I can with my other writing and my job and the fact that I would like to murder Al in this story because he is so selfish and short-sighted. (Well, he’s a teenager, what do you expect?) It’s reached a little more than 11,500 words. If this is a successful experiment, then I think I’ll use the same method of 1000 words a day to write other non-H/D pairing fics. I have a Snarry called “Amalgamations” in mind, and a Harry/Lucius called “Sympathy for the Predators.”

I anticipate Another Country as well as all others with a giddy heart and a greedy mind. I cannot thank you enough for all the wonder and sparkles of sunshine you fling into my days with abandon with each update of a fic or update on your progresses. A job? You mean you don't spend all day slaving over your stories simply to satisfy the voracious need for Harry-Draco slash, and then live off the happiness incurred from complementary reviews? I'm shocked. What is the world coming to these days, making fanfiction authors work...

I can not wait for "Difficulties of Being", I have a thing for fics involving Albus S./Scorpius and Harry/Draco. I've been dying for you to finish this since you first mentioned it. If you're feeling adventurous, you can always try to throw a hint of James/Lucius in there...though the black/blond hair meter might explode.

Subplots are just pains, aren't they? Always demanding page space and development. And the Latin should be fun to read (and write).

Oh, I discovered a pair of related cliches you never hit (though that may be on purpose, I don't know). Polyjuice-body-switching, and/or potion-enduced gender swapping. Dunno, I find your work covers much of the H/D fandom standards (and often improves on them greatly,) so noticing that was a surprise for me.

Can't wait for the next update. Practicing Liars is much awaited, I assure you.

In this story, I think James is much too Gryffindor to date a Malfoy, more's the pity.

I honestly can't think of anything new to do with the body-swapping plot that isn't crack. That's one reason that I've never tried it.

I can work from home a lot. :) That's one reason that I get as much writing done as I do.

I'm more confident with Snarry sex now; I'd written Snarry before Their Phoenix, but not sex between Snape and Harry.

Thank you. I just had to mollify all of my characters under the age of twenty that, 'No, she wasn't talking about you, you're considered adults in your societies.' ^^;

Another Country is sounding interesting, and Narcissa being included is always a great bonus.

Harry/Snape and Harry/Lucius? *is interested* In general I have no interest in these pairings, but from the mind a talented author...that's an entirely different issue.

I too had the kneejerk reaction, 'Wait, you have a job?' Makes sense, but that you manage to devote this much time to writing while you work as well is amazing. Though you also inspired me to get my sleep schedule back in order so I can start writing more consistently again ;)

Hey, I'm in a fandom which is almost nothing but alternate pairings ;) I try to be open to most of them as long as they're well-written, and that's certainly what I'm hoping for from your alternate pairings. In fact I don't ship in HP at all- I read all of your stories simply because they're very well-written. The only one I haven't been able to read fully is Forgive Those who Trespass. It's a good story, but just has too much gore for me. I can handle a lot (though more psychological than physical torture), and try not to let personal preferences color my view of a story, but...eh, if I feel nauseous due to the gore there's not much I can do ^^;

Actually, you're one of the authors who drags me into HP fandom, despite my not being a fan of the series itself!

I don't know how you do it. You have such a passion and a talent for writing ... and you get so much of it done! I really appreciate it as a loyal reader (if not a loyal reveiwer) and eagerly await every chapter. My day doesn't feel complete if I don't read a new chapter ... but still - it's amazing that you can do this!

So “Difficulties of Being” will be released in one go? That's good; I don't think that I could have stood periodic installments of Albus Severus trying to squelch his father's happiness without his being ultimately foiled / growing up ;)

Soldier's Welcome and Practicing Liars are love and it's so neat to see these little progress reports on where you're going. I ma bouncing off the edge of my seat for Another Country. And I (normally) really enjoy your Narcissa, so I can't wait to read it, subplots and all!

Generally, I'm not fond of the epilogue children, especially as teenagers (although I loved your Scorpius). But I'm intrigued, because you're covering a topic I don't think is normally covered when people write about the children. I'm looking forward to reading that "Lomonaaeren". Heehee.. you've become my standard when I read stories now.

Ohhh~ It seems like you're branching out into some other pairings. I love your Severus. Every one of them. So I'm sure to enjoy Amalgamations. And Harry/Lucius is something I've always liked the 'idea' of, but never liked the execution. But I know that's not to worry with you!

One of the reasons I generally don't read next-gen is that a lot of the conflicts seem artificial, or simply retreads of H/D fic. (Or sometimes they're complete fluff without conflict at all, which doesn't work for me). So it was a long time before I thought of a next-gen plot that would appeal to me.

I hope you will like this Harry/Lucius. I like the dynamic I've come up with for it.
