Update on the state of the Lomonaaeren

Soldier’s Welcome: Still no idea how long this is going to be. I know where it ends, but not when.
Practicing Liars: I’m tentatively able to estimate this as a 30-35 chapter fic now. Maybe the defeat of Voldemort will take place over Christmas holidays instead of at the end of the school year. That seems likelier with the pacing so far.
“Bastardy/Opportunity”: STOP GROWING, FIC. It’s 12,000 words now, and it’s only going to get longer. I’ve been working on this during the third days (like today) when I’m not posting on the other two, and I assumed it would be near the end by now. It’s not.
This fic would be called Nova Cupiditas, Latin for “new desire.” The title is the incantation for the curse that some very disgruntled half-bloods and Muggleborns are using on pure-bloods after the war. Politics continues as usual, with all the usual irritating blood superiority shit. The half-bloods decide that there’s little that would be more humiliating to the most bigoted than to be hit with a curse that forces them to fall into mindless lust with people they consider beneath them. Someone arranges for Draco to be cursed to lust after Harry, assuming that it’s a fitting punishment considering their rivalry at school.
Nova Cupiditas is a nasty curse. It inspires only lust at first, but if that’s denied, the desire changes into a different kind of hunger, and starts making the victim eat himself alive—biting off bits of his fingernails, tearing at his skin, gouging his eyes out, and so on. On the other hand, if the victim and the person he’s forced to lust after have sex, a new cycle begins, and soon the desire is back and causing more pain. More sex simply prompts the renewal of the cycle at shorter and shorter intervals, until there’s no way the victim can be satisfied fast enough, at which point he’ll either start eating himself or rape the object of his lust. There is no way to reverse it, even by having the original caster remove it.
Harry is extremely pissed off that this has happened to Draco, because it’s a horrible thing to happen to anyone. He’s started a new career as a spell inventor that includes learning to see magic, and he decides to take Draco into his house where he can study him and hopefully find a way to see the curse, which no one has studied this way before, so he can then find a way to take it off. Meanwhile, he can stop the eating behavior if it starts, and he’s more than confident that he can defend himself against any attack. (He would have sex with Draco if only out of compassion, but he considers that Draco is unable to give real consent and so it would be a case of him raping Draco if he did).
So the race is on to protect Draco—from the curse, from the people who think the best solution is for Draco to die, and from Draco’s own attempts to ease the lust by persuading Harry that, yes, really, he can consent to sex.
A dark story, obviously.

Date: 2009-11-08 02:16 am (UTC)Bastardy/Opportunity probably has about two more days of writing to go, so with any luck it'll be ready for posting on Friday.

Date: 2009-11-05 12:45 am (UTC)Second, loved your idea. It sounds really interesting, and like nothing I've read before. I hope you write it.

Date: 2009-11-08 02:17 am (UTC)Thank you! I have read a few stories with extremely Dark curses before, but I hope mine is original enough to be worth posting.

Date: 2009-11-05 12:54 am (UTC)Nova Cupiditas... very, very interesting. I love the curse, it'd be terrible for Draco and Harry, yes, but it's very inventive and nasty >:D Oh, and I like that it's Harry helping Draco.
he considers that Draco is unable to give real consent and so it would be a case of him raping Draco if he did
Why doesn't it surprise me that Harry could come up with a way to make him the villain if something happened?

Date: 2009-11-08 02:18 am (UTC)And thanks!
You could argue that Harry really isn't twisting anything; after all, if Draco is under a curse, that's rather like him being drunk. And a drunk person who doesn't consent is experiencing rape.

Date: 2009-11-05 01:50 am (UTC)Well. "Nova Cupiditas" sounds equally gory-graphic and panicky. Would this be tragic-ending? Or happy-ending/hopeful-ending? Or would that be giving it away?
Now, now, let the poor little fic grow...it's not the fic's fault it likes its words...
So, I assume the defeat of Voldemort does not indicate the end of the story in Practicing Liars? Or does it? Though it is a major source of plot/conflict, there's a lot going on to at least go a few chapters beyond the big defeat.
Can't wait for the next update.

Date: 2009-11-08 02:19 am (UTC)It's going to be basically happy-ending. But not everything will be worked out between Harry and Draco at the end; they still have a ways to go.
The story will probably go on for a few chapters beyond the defeat of Voldemort, but not for that long. The beginning chapters have covered less time than I meant for them to cover, and so I probably can't make them stretch out until the end of the school year.

Date: 2009-11-05 08:10 am (UTC)Omg, that curse is HORRIBLE! You do like your occasional gore, don't you? *grins*
But is sounds utterly AWESOME... if it gets a happy ending...
Can't we make a compromise concerning Practicing Liars? Because already at Christmas seems awfully soon to me, of cause you're the one who knows what's best for the story, but, but... I love it to much to let it end... *blushes* XP

Date: 2009-11-08 02:20 am (UTC)Well, I just don't want the story to get too stretched out! With the creeping pace it's traveling at right now, Christmas holidays probably won't be here as soon as you think.

Date: 2009-11-05 11:24 am (UTC)Any sort of relationship that could form out of this would be fascinating.

Date: 2009-11-08 02:20 am (UTC)Draco would want to form a relationship at that particular time, of course, but Harry won't go for it.

Date: 2009-11-08 02:21 am (UTC)Update on the state of the Lomonaaeren
Date: 2009-11-05 03:09 pm (UTC)I can imagine that Draco - in his cursed state of mind - will suffer greatly on behalf of and be quite dismayed by Harry's saving-peoplee-thing, even if - in this one instance - Draco is on the receiving end of Harry positive attention.
Looking forward to reading!
Re: Update on the state of the Lomonaaeren
Date: 2009-11-08 02:21 am (UTC)Yes, Draco will feel bad about it. Then again, he'll want relief even more, and be annoyed that Harry refuses to provide it for him.

Date: 2009-11-14 07:44 am (UTC)The new fic idea has me very intrigued, it makes me want to read it even though I can't read dark!fic unless there are lighter moments to balance it out. The idea of someone eating themselves alive is really gross but such an interesting idea that I've never even contemplated reading or writing before.
I can't wait to see what comes of the idea when you eventually start posting it.
