Lucius and Narcissa have left Malfoy Manor to Draco (maybe they died, maybe they left for France, whatever fits your muse). Summary: Harry doesn’t quite know what to make of a Draco Malfoy who smiles, laughs, and is honest with people after the war. But he thinks he wants to find out, and Draco is more than willing to indulge his curiosity.
Author’s Notes: Another one of my “From Litha to Lammas” fics; this one will have three parts. This fic is for a prompt by geinahop: I was recently thinking about the fact that Draco is frequently portrayed as very elegant, snooty, what-have-you, the Malfoy mask, if you will. What if that was truly a mask, and alone at home, Malfoys are just regular people? Warm, caring, irreverent, not acting like the upper crust of society. And maybe, after the war, Draco is just done being what he's not, so he goes back to Hogwarts for eighth year without the mask, totally himself all the time. His parents do not choose to lose the public mask, but they understand and fully support Draco's choice. (I love supportive elder Malfoys!) Back at Hogwarts, Harry is fascinated by the new Draco, and they slowly get to know each other's true selves, preferably ending up together eventually. The title comes from William Butler Yeats’s poem “A Prayer for My Daughter.”
