First, props to Kreacher. He was perceptive and willing enough to allow Master Draco to intervene and Harry owes him a raise, or a vacation, or whatever renumeration a house elf would accept.
I like Dave and his forthrightness! Enunciating succinctly and honestly what was going on.
Brian and Harry's belief that their relationships with Draco was too little and too late is disappointing. I remember mentioning how inexperienced in relationship Harry truly was and that manifests perhaps in all his personas for he cannot understand that which he has never experienced and endured; that which only a loving committed relationship can show.
Btw I've never been so happy to see the impact of Harry's atrocious penmanship as I was reading this chapter. I did catch the irony that the password to lock the cabinet was his parents names, while the unlock password was his enemies names.
The way you describe Draco winging it is so realistic. No plan, but to keep the Harrys talking and build from there. When you describe Harry's existence as "because every second of his existence was one of screaming pain," I was taken aback. It really has never been evident how much of this lies beneath the surface he projects.
So proud of Draco!!!
I so want to see a throw down between Draco and Hermione! The Weasel bigot can stay home, as he has nothing to contribute at this point. I imagine the conversation starting something like Hey M-Blood, when you left Harry by himself last night after whatever damage you inflicted, he was so distraught he was on the verge on self-annhiliation. Nice job there ... are you sure you don't want to help any further, you worthless know-it-all shrew?
I finally realized that these last couple of chapters had such an impact as there were times in the distant past where I spent hours talking dear friends back form the edge and hadn't thought about those events in eons. I can't say I'm happy to relive some of those moments, though since they ended OK, it isn't that bad. I could so empathize with Draco here; desperately needing to say the right think even though you couldn't be sure what that was. This may have subconsciously prodded me to take a break from reading and commenting.
I don't think that Draco will risk leaving Harry alone for some time, but I so want him to rip Hermione a new one and spittle her remains on the embers of the floo fire. He needs to vent and she deserves it more than anyone as she was the proverbial straw.
I think Draco may have to insist that the pensieve be destroyed along with any research and information relating to it. It is simply too dangerous and Harry's decision to use it shows that it is too much of a temptation in the darkest hour. He can't destroy the knowledge, but he can at least make it much more difficult for it ever to be considered again.
I apologize for the delay in posting this comment and will try and get up to date tonight ... er this AM! Thanks for continuing to amaze us!
