And btw, I noticed that neither of them asked to join and help Harry's rebellion, so they are, by default, for the status quo (with us, or with them, there is no room for neutrality anymore). And that says more to me than most of the rest. They don't care enough to help others and only want to make Harry into whom they want him to be. They are collaborators in oppression and don't give a sickle.
Part of me almost hopes that Harry pulls the metaphorical trigger, and goes for the reverse pensieve. The spitefulness of it would almost be worth the all consuming guilt that should be Hermione's gift for her ignorant and intransigent interference. She and the Weasel could console themselves by saying it was better this way and joyfully celebrate their accomplishments in helping their friend as he becomes a shell that perhaps doesn't even recognize their friendship anymore.
But the there's Draco, the only one in this entire novel who seems to truly understand and love Harry for who he is. It's easy to forget that they were happily dancing and enjoying each others company just a few moments earlier. Assuming he finds out what happened before it's too late, I suspect he will be angry and I hope he vents it at the proper people. Harry should have trusted him more, but it's too late for that. They can support each other, though and I am actually anxious to see if there can be some sort of happy ending, at least for those two ... the hell with the rest of 'em!
I won't begin to speculate about the last line, but merely encourage you to continue, in your incredible timely way, to torment us spectacularly! It has been elucidating to discover how much one can hate a chapter and love the novel simultaneously ;-}
