Kudos to Hermione in the this chapter! She had just the right amount of incredulousness without being sanctimonious. I do like the fact the Harry is being called out on his lies, thought the long term adverse effects of the spell are a concern. I don't understand why they can't give Narcissa veritaserum? She broke into a secure Ministry holding cell and was casting dark magic as if it were a party favor, and is not forthcoming.
Oh great, "fainting fits," just what he needs ;-} And sudden surges of emotion just as he's coming off his potion, another wonderful side effect. BTW did the healers know or find anything about the potion he had been taking? Considering how long he took it, I didn't know if it would have entirely cleared his system or perhaps left residual traces? He indicates that it is still there later on when thinking about how his anger might manifest.
Mordant ... too funny!
Harry's thoughts concerning his desire not to rock the boat, so to speak, are quite insightful into his character. Avoiding confrontation whenever possible, seems like something he would value, but he places perhaps too much value in that. And Hermione and Millicent stepping up to defend him, when he won't is endearing to the max.
It's good for Draco to unload his secrets regarding his mother; purifying, perhaps even cathartic in a way. It was with no small amount of glee I read "Bloody inconvenient time to find out I’m in love, but there you are." Almost makes you feel bad for him, but not really ;-} It's ironic that his conversation with his mother is almost precisely what she predicted when she lied about not harming Harry. I wonder what made her believe that it was worth the risk of permanent alienation from her only son?
Another wonderful installment that was so jam packed with depth! Thank you very much!
A couple on lines I noticed that I was wondering about: "Harry’s own reputation will force them to [do] it." And "it’s myself and Harry I owe that freedom to." This last one just read a little funny, maybe because it ends in a preposition or something, but it seems to me that "it's to myself and Harry that I owe that freedom," might sound better, though I'm not sure, by any means!
