Lucius is deeply, deeply uncomfortable with the idea that another man might see him as desirable, so Harry's warning is well-taken for him.
Chapter 36 is the harsh one. And also Chapter 37 (or possibly Chapter 38. I cannot tell how long the party chapters will be. Stupid party).
Draco really needs to be near Harry to interfere when he starts taking Nusante too seriously. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet.
The reason for Ron and Hermione's absence is (eventually) explained.
