Harry would be a bit shocked by that interpretation. He simply sees himself like any other artist, creating entertainment for people to consume. If he expects them to hire Metamorphosis, he has to be able to provide them with what they want.
(Not that I disagree with you about his having to have more self-respect).
Harry would be reluctant to trick his friends in one of his personas, but he would do it if he had to. In a way, he's already wearing a mask around them, giving them what he believes they want/need of Harry Potter.
