Harry's first mistake was thinking that he could accept hurting Draco as the price of his plan. He really couldn't, and he should have known that from the beginning. He's fought so long on the basis that people should be able to live without pain, after all.
The persona is certainly an extension of himself. What it becomes probably depends on circumstances as much as anything else.
Draco made a mistake. He isn't going to admit it, but he does make up for it by taking the best chance. :)
Ron thinks of Harry as "my friend who happens to be gay, not like all those other gay people." So he doesn't realize that his comments hurt Harry at all.
