This Harry distresses me. I've read damaged!Harry before (although rarely as well crafted as this one), but this takes it to a completely new level. And yet he makes Metamorphosis so seductive -this brilliant tool that would allow you to parcel out all of the qualities you possess and never have to really own any of them. The ultimate performance high. And yet he really doesn't seem to understand that in order to play these characters he must possess the strength and cunning and intelligence that his characters demonstrate. I just want to hug him.

I do love how Draco has slowly chipped away at the various protections Harry has constructed, but oh my god was I worried that Harry would actually disappear into a character. I think that knowing Draco as Brian really killed that, though, since Brian seems to be the character that Harry wishes he were. It was interesting to see that when Harry hurt Draco, his first assumption was that Draco was dead, that he was a terrible, terrible person without hope for the future, but that as soon as he realized that Draco was alive he pulled up everything he knew to help him. He is fighting so hard against so many sides of himself.

I'm happy about the potential end result of this chapter (assuming, of course, that Harry actually tells him the truth), but I'm wary about the fact that Harry has to concoct a character hybrid to allow himself to do that.

Your Ron is exactly as thoughtless and careless as I believe canon Ron would be, if the wizarding world were knee jerk homophobic and Harry was gay but nonpracticing. I'm curious about Hermione's viewpoint, though. I feel like she would totally be the president of a gay straight alliance in high school. :)
