Harry and Hermione were, in some ways, brought closer by Ron's death. It seems odd, but it's true. If nothing else, Harry learned more about Hermione by taking care of her. Glad you like their interaction.
Interesting theory on fundamental compatibility! That seems to be what Hermione feels with Draco, too, or she never would have included him among the group of friends she names to Cordelia. Figuring out just what they feel for each other will be a major task for Harry and Draco in the next story. Yes, there's a third part.
Draco did what he could! I didn't want him to be totally helpless. But yes, there was a heavy element of risk. It helped that Daphne is so impatient for Harry to face her, she didn't want to risk harming his friend and having him tend Hermione instead of coming to her.
Chapter 20 is the last chapter of this one, but part 3 will start in about a week.
