I think all characters have to be released at some time, unless the writer means to write their whole story from birth to death. And this was the point at which I think they had done enough sharing in front of the reader to go on.
And thank you very much. I just can't leave characters' psychology alone, and in this case I wanted to make it clear that they really did earn their happiness.
