I often can't stand Hermione in fic, either, and I think that spills over into many of my stories. But here she's already in a relationship with Harry that's different from just the bossy know-it-all, which makes it easier to develop her further.
Both Harry and Draco have to make some efforts before they can start dating comfortably.
