There is not punishment enough for Richard. HE should become the basis of the maze, not Draco. That man deserves to suffer for eternity. Harry and Draco just have to figure out how to get him to willingly volunteer.
You said in an above comment that Richard is sane. I don't know that I agree with that comment. He isn't insane in the same manner as Voldemort was, but the man is undoubtedly a psychopath, a sociopath, and has no conscience, empathy, ethics, morals, or remorse. Which makes him all the more dangerous. And he is after the same goal as Voldemort--immortality--and he does not care who he harms or kills to achieve it. He is not doing this in some noble goal of helping wizardkind, though he might profess that on the surface, but this is a personal, selfish, wholly self-centered goal for his benefit. If he really cared about "helping the wizarding world" he would have volunteered himself for the maze. He only used Azkaban prisoners because that was how he could manipulate his co-workers into doing the research. I hated him before I read this chapter, now I loathe him. *shudders*
I totally understand Draco's catatonia at this point. I don't think it will be easy for Harry to bring him out of it, but I hope he manages. Perhaps losing Draco in this manner will make Harry realize just how much Draco means to him. I know Harry has something stupid in mind, and I hope that Draco is able to prevent him from sacrificing himself. I'm just praying that they'll both survive, find Ron and Hermione, and somehow set it up for Richard to burn in hell.
Can't wait for the next chapter. I hope your travel doesn't keep you too long. But travel safely, that's more important.
