Heh, that's an interesting effect. I wanted to play with the canonical Department of Mysteries at first, but I didn't think it would support a full-length story. On the other hand, the Veil is just too neat to leave alone.
And thank you! I think Sirius was a fascinating character, but given the way he acted in Book 5, I'm not convinced his influence on Harry's life would have been entirely positive if he lived. (He might have encouraged him to be more prejudiced towards Slytherins than Harry ended up being, for example). But I've read some excellent stories revolving around Harry's angst at losing him.
I don't think Draco gets exactly how much Harry trusts him, because he doesn't know how close Harry was to Sirius. But he does realize their relationship is changing, and he's glad.
Hee. Draco often reminds me of a cat in some ways- dignified, cruel to small furry things, and totally convinced that any mistake he makes is a work of genius.
