I actually didn't plan to have them kiss at this point in the story, which is one reason it threw off my plans when they did. But hopefully it will still work with my plot.
Harry really, really wants a normal life. He's done things so differently, and for so long he's missed out on things other people have and take for granted: parents, siblings, more than two close friends, the hope of a life past the time he turned seventeen. I doubt that he would really welcome this change with open arms. And, too, he's managed to battle his way through so many unlikely situations in the past that he probably has an overexaggerated sense of his own endurance.
Heh, even if Draco had wanted to build that vocabulary into the communication sphere for some reason, Harry wouldn't have let him. :)
Harry is accepting that he can do some things on his own, like fight and give his life for people, but he still thinks Hermione would be better with words.
Draco is determined to wear Harry's denial down. Of course, one of the problems with that is that he doesn't yet realize how deep it runs.
As I said above, I think Harry wants a normal life that won't make people stare at him. Even if everybody completely accepts that he's gay, there will always be a few people (like Ginny) upset and surprised that he "chose" to be that way.
