In this case, it just wasn't possible. Harry in the other world fell into the trap that this Harry escaped, by sacrificing his own happiness for everyone else's. This Harry was made unhappy by that- if nothing else, he always felt guilty that he caused anyone any pain- and it makes sense that the double who followed his path would also be unhappy.
