At first, I did envision Raphael as the culprit, but that was before I realized that the story would be the right length to take care of an open-ended mystery without having to end with the reversal of the curse. And Draco's development as a character was more important to me, anyway. (Besides, it was nice to write an OC who was kind of a jerk but still okay as a person).
Harry's exclusive attention had a lot to do with Draco's recovery, I think. On his own, it would have been much harder; the example of his two years alone should prove that.
And that's the one thing that tempts me to write a sequel!
