Well, that was a doozy of a pair of confrontations. If nothing else, Severus was honest with Harry, which will probably get the best results in the long run. I doubt Harry would have believed anything more than that Severus was trying, and it would have crushed him to hear things were the same as before.
Ron and Hermione are quite a bit younger (and far less informed) than Draco here. It makes sense, on some level, that they really resent Draco. But at least Draco did the mature thing and let them dig their own conversational graves.
