Well, here I am, trying to make you sympathetic to Dumbledore when that might not be a good idea, but...
Dumbledore wanted Harry to have the time to think about it and deal with it. He doesn't want to leave things up to chance the way he essentially had to in canon. After all, think about how easily Harry might have missed the information about his necessary death if he hadn't been there when Snape was dying.
