I think this was revenge; I tried to make that clear with Harry's musings on how he understood that it wasn't Ron and Hermione's fault, but given that he'd tried to remember that for a year and it changed nothing, he wanted to clear the poison from the air for himself. He knew that it wouldn't change Ron and Hermione's perceptions, which is part of the reason why he let Draco Obliviate them afterwards, so for them it would not have to be part of their experience when they awaken from the curse. And after snapping, he is not so angry with them when they do meet again.
I think it's rather like someone snapping after a long period of trying to be super-careful around a person who suffered a tragedy and venting about how their grief is counterproductive and they should move forward. It's not a nice thing to do, and the person who suffered the tragedy is much more of a victim. But I think it's understandable.
