Many people did assume it was inspired by Cyrano. It wasn't, and one reason I wanted to make it clear that it wasn't was that a lot of people also assumed they knew the plot already. I hit on a similar device, but I think there were a lot of differences.
I always love it when people can see other characters' sides. It makes me feel like I've done my job in trying to make them both strong, sympathetic, and convinced that they're right, as people often are in real life.
