He just can't afford to lean on someone else and then lose the support; it would shatter him.
I'm glad you liked that description! I didn't really know I was writing that when I began the chapter; I had just planned Harry's letters and Draco's wanking in the shower. I'm not sure I'd call Draco's behavior 'sweet,' but Slytherin, definitely.
