Pride. Pride is a very good roadblock when handled properly. Severus, Draco, Sirius, even Harry stumbles on it, meek little Gryffindor that he is. (And the overly sensitive characters? Well. My policy for characters: authenticity. If I cannot equate them with real, living people, then they're not good enough characters to read. I don't think there's actually any person on this earth that's that sensitive, unless you count the clinically depressed/insane/otherwise mentally and emotionally incapacitated ones. Then it's a totally different argument.)
I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU I LIKED ANGST -- I'M A MASO THAT WAY. But sadly x____x being maso doesn't shield you from the angst pain.
Indeed~. I do want someone wanting Harry, but for some strange reason, I tend to sympathize towards Draco more. Probably because my character is more similar to him than to Harry. I want someone wanting Draco too. And you know, not just in the superficial way -- not for the power, or the money, or the looks, or the name. Just -- wanting Draco for Draco. For the loathsome prejudiced bastard that he is. For his ego the size of twin Jupiters, for his (inherited) narcissism, for his pride. It's kind of hard to find those fics too. (Any recs? 8DD)
