Snape was utterly stupid and Draco compounded his stupidity. Neither of them thought about it. Snape and Draco have both proved to Harry that he can trust neither of them. Snape, by trying to use Draco to bully Harry into complying, has just taken away someone Harry trusts. Perhaps I was too soon dismissing the idea of strangling Snape? Ah well.
