Thank you! Harry is still aiming for his freedom first and foremost, but adopting those tactics also helps him surprise the Malfoys and understand them better- which are worthwhile goals in and of themselves.

I hadn't phrased the statement about Draco's flirtation tactics to myself that way, but you're exactly right. Draco knows Harry doesn't want a copy of himself. On the other hand, neither does he want another selfish lover like Xavier, or a morally loose one like Julius. Draco is showing Harry he can be moral, gentle, and honest in his own way, without being exactly like him.
