Thank you! I didn't want to exaggerate their reactions too much. I've read several fanfics where their reaction was completely melodramatic and weird (for example, Hermione suddenly becomes extremely Christian and won't accept a gay Harry).
She probably didn't try to see it through Harry's eyes because she was afraid, frankly. She just doesn't know enough, and not knowing enough is Hermione's idea of hell. I'm also not sure that she would accept Harry's explanation of Draco's effect on his life, since Harry probably couldn't explain it clearly himself.
Harry loves his friends too much to hurt them with magic. That does point out that his relationship with Draco is different, I think.
If you read the section with Lucius at the party again carefully, you'll probably grasp part of the truth of the spell.
