I wonder if the very large proportion of female authors in slash fandom leads to an engagement with power dynamics that, while often interesting, sometimes overrides the portrayal of actual gay sex for a commentary on the way heterosexual roles work. If sex is power and only power, it's not exciting for women sleeping with men, but I don't think it's exciting for fictional men sleeping with men, either.
I love flawed characters. But what I seem to encounter a lot these days are character who have cosmetic flaws, like quick tempers, but never actually make mistakes. That's very annoying.
