I don't think Harry knows. He may only be thinking of it as another persona because he's so used to thinking of everything in terms of personas.

The way Ron saw it, he insulted other gay people, not Harry. He separates Harry from others who happen to share his orientation. He's going to be absolutely astounded when/if he realizes that he hurt Harry.
