Sweet because it is intense, and gloriously passionate, and that's the most open Harry's ever been.
Bitter because . . . that's the most open Harry's ever been, and it's precipitated by a web of deception and lies which will inevitably implode. We know that Harry's going to try to extricate himself from the relationship because of Narcissa. Also, we know from his past sexual encounter with Draco that such intimacy would make Harry pull away and insulate himself even without the looming threat of Narcissa's knowledge (to protect his "persona". Yeah right. He just doesn't want to have to face himself). This should be the beautiful start of something. Instead it's the beginning of the end of something.
Sweet for Draco because he seems similarly affected. From his thoughts it doesn't appear that anyone's every made him quite that passionately out of control before. Bitter because again, we know the shit is going to hit the fan. But also it's clear from his words that he knows Brian was lying to him the last time they had sex, and that he knows Brian is still lying to him in some way even if they did just have very honest sex.
But most of all (to me) it's sad because Harry doesn't even know what he would like in bed. Even worse, he thinks he knows. But he doesn't because he doesn't really know who the hell he is because he's never let himself be himself.
I like the questions. I leave reviews when something really gets me thinking, though I don't always know whether the author is really listening so I don't always leave long ones. But I'm curious as to whether you did not see this scene as bittersweet, and whether you don't also think Harry is horribly fucked up and sad. It seems rather . . . transparent to me, but if that's not what you're going for, I'm having a whole lot of fun reading stuff into it. The nice thing about good writing is the text is rich enough to sustain many varied interpretations.
