Unfortunately, I doubt Richard would ever volunteer. He's convinced everyone has a special place in the experiment, and his is overseeing it.

I would say that Richard is not insane in that he's not a gibbering madman and he's not a sociopath in the way Voldemort was. He's a fanatic...but fanatics are often still able to function normally in the outside world, and you wouldn't really ever notice that they were kind of unbalanced until you got them to speak about their obsessions in private. (I've known one person obsessed with academic success and a few religious fundamentalists I would describe this way). Richard really and truly does believe in what he's doing. He can't be persuaded out of it, though.

As you've seen, you did provide a good capsule description of Chapter 26! Including the something stupid.

And thanks! I had a good trip. More travel tomorrow, ugh, but then I'm off for a few weeks.
