Draco (and I think this is true of him even in canon) has difficulty seeing the negative side of Harry's fame. He would have acted so differently were he the Boy-Who-Lived that he and Harry are essentially living in different solar systems.
Harry kind of lashed out partially because he's thinking, "Sneaky Slytherins will do anything for money." It took the Veritaserum to reassure him that Draco's artistic motive was actually stronger.
If Draco learns about the Incident before Harry tells him, then he might have some guesses.
