SO much love for this chapter, my favourite so far. I can’t decide which part was the best: Hermione trying to persuade Draco (and failing, though I don’t think she’ll drop it) or the potion exploding and Harry’s quick thinking. I think I’ll go with Hermione and Draco’s scene, the whole conversation about moral was very interesting and insightful regarding Draco’s views in the matter. It was very IC for Hermione to bring that up, of the three she’s the most likely to consider the influence the potion will have (and care about them, because I’m sure Draco understands the repercussions). So is Harry focusing on the now, placing his best friend’s health above all else and not really getting not only big things like wars can change the world, but little things as well. And oh, Draco’s response… The thought that I could cure those problems—well, suffice it to say I’m not so selfish as to keep the cure to myself. ::snort:: As if Hermione would buy that.
“It’s compensation for the time and effort and ingredients I’ll put into the potion. And my reward for being such a good person,” Draco said modestly The ‘modestly’ cracked me up. That has to go in Draco’s top 10 Slytherin Rapid-Response Trait :P
During the brewing there were several moments I loved: Harry calling Draco an artist (and Draco’s smile), Draco’s thrill at Harry’s knowledge and questions, Harry taking Draco’s hand (of course Harry wouldn’t think it was a big deal ::lol::), and my favourite:
Harry reacted without thought—though he reckoned later he must have thought it through, or he would simply have knocked Malfoy’s hand away and put his in its place. I love when Harry turns instinctively to magic while in danger, better yet when the spells he uses aren’t the common ones. I think that says a lot about him.
All right, no symbolic answers. But Draco’s excitement refused to die. If one of them knew the theory, and one of them had a grounding in common sense of the “maybe this will work” variety, that would be enough. I understand him. While working on a problem, is great to have someone who is at your level and thinks as you do. Having someone who has a different perspective, who can point things you might have missed, is even better.
“He doesn’t think he has the right to say what good or evil is anymore.” This goes along the “weak” comment in the ‘clues about the Incident’ box, right?
This is getting more and more interesting every chapter, can’t wait for more! Is Hermione going to join the process sometime?
