The spiritual feeling does describe how I felt when writing it. But then, I don't usually write about afterlives or the world of the dead, so maybe that's why.
I'm so glad that this managed to remind you of Lothlorien. That is definitely my favorite section of Tolkien's writing.
I think of canon Draco as someone who would seek out steadiness after the last two years of his canon life, when everything had the potential to go down the toilet at any moment. And because the Ministry in this story restricted the magic he could do, it fit him.
I hadn't even thought of the effects that Harry facing death would have on him, but yeah, you're right. Death is seductive to him, but also unfrightening. It's true that someone who doesn't fear it would probably be more likely to commit suicide, accidentally or not.
I probably exaggerated the force of Draco's attraction for Harry; in canon, Harry certainly doesn't seem that focused on Draco (except in sixth year). But hey, it worked. :)
The completely un-eloquent Harry is what makes this particular fic work, I think. Draco had to restrain him and let diplomacy and tact play out.
