Snape is going to try and interfere in Harry's life more from this point forwards, but he won't always be nice about it.

Maybe the admission would cause Harry to open up...except that he didn't really make it willingly.

I think Harry is partially responsible for his friends being background characters. He hasn't been paying as much attention to them as he really should have, partially because he's invested so much emotional energy in denying that Snape's his father.
