Yeah. And most of the time, I'm just not convinced by the roadblocks- they seem to be things that most people wouldn't think twice about, and even if this person would, I find extremely sensitive, whiny characters hard to care about. Or else I know that the character has suffered but not how they feel about it, where with Snape it does seem that his brusqueness and his pride would prevent him from expressing himself easily.
But this is a story tagged "angst"! Surely that's a warning!
Ha, I think we're coming towards the same place for different reasons, actually. I suppose that what I do like most is not someone taking care of Harry, but someone wanting him, since his relatives convinced him no one would and so many people only want him because he's the Boy-Who-Lived. So the Draco-chases-Harry stories are right up my alley. I mostly write the other kind because I don't want to become repetitive.
