Yeah, me too. It's a lot more realisic. Real Life doesn't go "Hey, he likes you. Oh, you like him too? Yay, Happy End and all is well!", so I enjoy stories that are realistic a lot more than the less realistic ones.
And of course people mostly expect a happy end and, depending on the author of ourse, have a reason to too, but there's a huge difference between the author and the readers articipating/knowing a happy end will come, and the characters. And I like knowing character development or just the insides of a character a lot more than just finding out what happens.
