I understand what you mean. I'm kind of wondering if the plot I've got set up will work to redeem him. But at least now he does know that a) he hasn't stopped caring for Harry, b) there's a chance Harry cares for him in return, and c) it was the scars that kept them apart, but not the scars that ended the relationship. There's a chance that he'll at least start having to consider that, if he's got anything like the honesty Harry attributes to him. (And Draco is also easy to flatter. The mere fact that Harry thinks he's that honest is going to be a reason to try and live up to it).
I don't know a lot about young children, which is one reason I don't try to write them often. However, I think being an only child in a family of adults and a child Draco would take pains to educate even as he spoiled him would make up for a lot. I was rather like Scorpius- speaking complete sentences at two- and I was also an only child at the time who spent all my time around adults and would rather read books than do anything more active. Thanks for bringing it up, though. I'll try to show in later chapters why he's like this.
