Draco got rocked back on his heels by Harry's response to his flirting, and now he's actually trying to listen and think instead of just reacting.

There will be some conflict, but it won't be as simple as the Malfoys expecting Harry to just act like a sycophant in public. After all, one of the reasons they value him is because he's noble and does things for the right reasons; they would be stupid if they expected him to put up with something morally dubious and not make a fuss.
