Thanks for taking the chance! I usually avoid stories of this kind as well, since so often they're mixed up with pain (really not my kink) or involve sex acts that come across to me as one inch away from rape.
I don't really think anyone would be balanced after coming through a war, though I think the experience as told in this story affected Harry and Draco in different ways than the canon one. (One reason I'm grateful to JKR for those nineteen years is the way that I can play around with the time and put various recovery-from-war stories in there).

It's interesting that you talk about Draco surrendering as well. I had to reread sections of the story again to see what you meant. Yes, he does do that, if only because he doesn't question his good luck obsessively and drive Harry away in the doing.
