Harry's torture may make it easier for Draco to open up about his memories (as he will have to if they're going to be used as evidence to exonerate Harry). Harry's torture was very public, and even his attempt to lie about it got noticed.

Glad you liked the way Draco, Hermione, and Millicent worked together. They're very different, but they can respect each other's differences, or at least tolerate them.

Harry was having a moment of despair; he didn't want to die, but he really didn't see how he could overcome the spell without hurting Narcissa at first. And he does have an over-developed guilt complex.
